Quitting an addiction...

In october 2011, I gave up smoking, so I thought I would share my story with you in the hope that I could help somebody else do the same thing.

I had been smoking for quite a few years before I quit and couldn't picture my life without it. My main reason for quitting was money, cigarette prices went up and up and I just couldn't afford to do it. When I had my last cigarette, I knew that it was my last one and I told myself that this would be the last time I smoked. Straight after, I put on a patch and used an inhaler. The first day went really smoothly and I felt fine. However, that night when I took the patch off, I started getting heart palputations (which I had never experienced before), and knew I couldn't use the patches again. From then on, I just used the inhaler which I found really helpful as my main problem was finding something to do with my hands.

The feeling of 'I need a cigarette' still comes every now and then (when I'm feeling stressed), but I know that I would never smoke again, and I know that in time that feeling will completely go.

Since quitting, my skin is softer and less 'dull', I don't get spots, my teeth are whiter and I don't get out of breath as easily. I just feel happier and healthier in myself :)

If I can do it, anyone can. Just go easy on yourself and stay motivated. Picture the money you save and how much shopping you can do for the summer :)

Thank you very much for reading.

  1. So SO So many well dones! I really need to stop. Can't afford it, can't stand it, must do it, but somehow keep affording it and keep smoking.

    1. I was the same. I always went on about how expensive it was and how I hated it and yet I still smoked. The more I got stressed about smoking, the more I smoked. You need to tell yourself that this is your last cigarette and you'll never smoke again. Then you need to expect and accept that you'll feel uncomfortable and be thinking about it and want one, you can't think "THAT'S IT! NEVER AGAIN!", because it isn't. You just have to override it and win.

  2. I really need to give up, but I'm not sure I WANT to yet, I'd save about 60 quid a week if I did. Maybe it's time to kick the habit. Well done huni :) x

    1. I don't think it would work if you tried to quit now, because you don't feel you want to yet, so you would feel like you're depriving yourself. Give it time, I was once the biggest addict around haha :D xx
